Other Common Name(s):
- Phonetic Spelling
- SEE-dum mor-gan-ee-AY-num
- Description
-
Succulent plant producing trailing stems 24" long with trinagular shaped fleshy blue green leaves. Leaves are quite delicate and will break off if manipulated. Terminal pink or red flower clusters appear in the summer. Attractive in a hanging planter so the trailing stems can be highlighted. Needs high light indoors and should be watered regularly until winter when it should be watered infrequently. Evergreen perennial to 6 cm, prostrate and pendulous.
Tolerates temperatures down to 40 degrees F; prefers high light interior environments such as a windowsill with at least partial sun; prefers dry soil, fresh air and shallow pot; tepid water should be used to water plant; cuttings and dropped leaves root easily; pest/disease problems (mostly due to overwatering).
Observations: Unusual crowded, 3-d, jellybean-shaped leaves on long, pendulous stems are key identification features; flowers are seldom observed; leaves can drop to form a new plant.
