Foamy Bells x Heucherella

Description

With numerous varieties and cultivars to choose from, x Hucherellas or Foamy Bells can fit almost any garden.  They are a clumping perennial hybrid between Heuchera (Coral Bells) and Tiarella (Foam Flowers).  Combining some traits of its parents, you will be presented with attractive foliage and abundant flowers. It gets it brilliant foliage from Heuchera and its leaf patterns and shapes from Tiarella.  Many varieties are evergreen in milder climates, adding winter interest to your garden.

They feature a low growing, compact habit with delicate colorful interesting leaves. Above the foliage, pink or white flowers form in open sprays.

Plant in partial shade in moist well-drained organically rich soils. A location with morning sun would also be suitable.  They work well planted in small groups, massed in a border front, along a walkway or patio, in a rock garden, woodland or even window boxes.

Its habit make it a great container plant, with some varieties-cultivars providing both spillers and fillers.

Although shade is the desired location to place this plant, in cooler climates more sun can be tolerated.  The darker colored varieties or cultivars tend to be more sun tolerant once established.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems:  No serious insect or disease problems. Rust is an issue with some varieties.  Root weevils can cause problems.

Heavy frost followed by warm temperatures can cause the roots to heave.

Overwatering can lead to rot when good drainage has not been provided.
