Coral Knock Out® Rose Rosa Knock Out® Group

Phonetic Spelling
RO-zuh
Description

The Knock Out® roses are woody, deciduous shrubs in the rose family (Rosaceae). They are patented, hybrid roses bred to have a long bloom season and be particularly resistant to blackspot, a disease common to most roses. The Knock Out® trade name is now applied to 13 cultivars listed below.

Grow Knock Out® roses in full sun to partial shade in neutral to acidic, moist, loamy soil with good drainage. It is one of the few roses that will bloom reasonably well in partial shade. They grow to 3-4 feet tall and wide and requires less pruning than most roses, needing attention only to manage the plant’s size. Lightly prune in late February. Water during periods of drought to maintain a continual supply of flowers and mulch the roots to maintain moisture and consistent soil temperatures. They also tolerant of heat and humidity. Removing spent blooms will encourage your plant to rebloom sooner.

The flowers appear in spring and will repeat bloom through fall. Colors are yellow, red, orange, pink, peach and white and can be single to double-flowered with or without fragrance. The foliage is dark to medium green on stems with prickles.

Use these roses as a hedge, specimen, accent or barrier. The one miniature rose in the group can be grown in a pot.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Roses are susceptible to damage from rabbits and deer.  See pests of roses to the left.

The Clemson Cooperative Extension Home and Garden Information Center has a factsheet on common rose diseases as well as a factsheet on insects and other related pests.
