Description

In 2005, the award-winning Night Owl™ floribunda rose was bred in the US by Tom Carruth, a leading hybridizer.  Parentage is ((International Herald Tribune x Crepin) x (Sweet Chariot x Blue Nile ) x Rosy Outlook. Winner of the Gold Standard Rose 2011.

It will reach 10-14 feet tall and 3-6 feet in width. Grows well in full sun in fertile moist well-drained soil.  Avoid overhead watering, water from the base of the plant. Mulch to retain moisture and prune in late winter as needed. Remove any diseased, damaged or crossed canes at any time.

The large 4" flowers of deep purple to red wine make for a showy appearance climbing an arbor, wall, fence or trellis in your garden. The compound gray-green leaves are on stems with a few prickles.

The flowers attract bees making this a welcome addition to a pollinator garden.  It grows well in verticle space where it can be a specimen plant supported by an arbor or trellis.  Use in near a patio or poolside to enjoy the fragrance or use it in a cottage or cutting garden to take advantage of the showy wine-colored blooms that appear spring through fall.

Insects, Diseases and Other Plant Problems:  Watch for spider mites, aphids, scale, caterpillars, and leafhoppers. Watch for mildew. black spot and rust.
