Pinckneya Pinckneya pubens

Previously known as:

  • Pinckneya bracteata
Phonetic Spelling
PINK-nee-ya brak-tee-AY-tuh
Description

Fever tree is a short-lived shrubby habit perennial shrub or small tree.  It has large, coarse rich-green leaves that are concentrated at the ends of its branches.  It performs best if it receives several hours of direct sun.

This tree is native to South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.  It needs a cool moist root zone which can be achieved with a layer of mulch.

The sepals (petal supports) will become petal in nature and do resemble poinsettias, making a beautiful display.
