Sungold Butterfly Bush Buddleja x weyeriana

Other Common Name(s):

Phonetic Spelling
bud-LAY-yah why-er-ee-AH-nah
Description

Buddleja weyeriana grows in average, well-drained soil in full sun. It can become weedy if not grown in full sun and will have less vigorous flowering. As with other Buddleja's, it does poorly in wet, poorly draining conditions. However, it tolerates clay soil that has been properly amended with compost. This is not as winter hardy as other Buddlejas. It may die back to the roots in zone 5b or 6 and should be grown in a protected area and well mulched.

Deadheading of flowers will encourage additional bloom.  This butterfly bush blooms on both old and new wood and pruning branches close to the ground in late winter will produce abundant flowers and a better shape to the plant. It will typically grow 5-7 feet tall in a single season and can grow much taller if not pruned, with an upright, spreading habit.
