False Indigo 'Cherries Jubilee' is a hybrid in the DECADENCE® series which was bred for different flower colors and a dense compact form. It is fairly short for a False Indigo, growing 2-3 feet high and wide. It is attractive even when not blooming and provides interest in the garden from spring through frost.
In late spring to early summer the deep red buds open to bicolored flowers of maroon and yellow that age to golden and are held above attractive blue-green foliage. The flowers are followed by ornamental seed pods. The plant is bushy and multi-stemmed making it a heavy bloomer.
False Indigos are long-lived with a deep taproot making them drought-tolerant but difficult to transplant. They will grow in average, moist to dry, well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade. Use this plant as a specimen, in the middle of the perennial border or pollinator gardens and naturalized areas.
