A hybrid between Artemisia arborescens and Artemisia absinthium.
Family name Asteraceae (Compositae) Bushy perennial, silvery herb or subshrub to 3' tall by 4' diameter.
Quick ID Hints:
- Bushy mound of silvery, dissected foliage.
- Leaves silvery-tomentose, finely dissected
- Flowers yellow in minute, drooping heads
Hybrid selected by Mr. A.J. Hancock where it lines walls and terraces of Powis Castle in Wales. Blooms in late summer, but flowers inconspicuous. Wormwoods are reported to be medicinal, the leaves and flowers providing a strong stimulant in drinks, but known to produce toxic effects in humans who drank it. Silvery foliage and dissected, pinnatifid leaves provide identification problems with group of plants known as dusty millers.
Prefers full sun and dry, well-drained soils. Tolerant of high pH, sandy-gravelly loam or clay loam soils. No serious pest/disease problems.
