What to look for: When newly installed, this patio felt very exposed, so the homeowner used trees and shrubs to give the patio a cozy, enclosed feeling. The winter-blooming apricot trees provide a lovely canopy, while a weeping Japanese maple along with a combination of dwarf conifers and kaleidoscope abelia provide the “walls.”
