Luzon Viburnum is a large deciduous shrub native to open woodlands, roadsides and disturbed areas of eastern Asia. It is rarely grown in the USA. The shrub can grow to 15 feet tall with a similar spread and is variable in leaf shape and form depending on its habitat. It is generally a dense, twiggy, rounded to haystack shrub that makes a good hedge.
Plant in the full sun to partial shade in high organic matter well-drained soils. Mature plants tolerate some drought. Flowers are small and white and have a slighly unplesant fragrance. Flowers are followed by rounded fruits that start off red and turn black giving fall and winter intrest to the plant. Leaves also provide fall and winter intrest by turning purple-red. Leaves often remain on the plant through winter until new growth occurs in the spring.
