Description

An evergreen woody climbing perennial that is grown as a vine or sprawling shrub or in containers that are overwintered indoors.  Where it is not winter hardy it is grown as an annual flower or it can be grown indoors as a houseplant.  It has beautiful dark green foliage and white, fragrant flowers in spring.  It is subject to winter kill to the ground when grown in full sun.  It is tolerant of heavy shade.  Star jasmine is in a different family (Apocynaceae) than the true jasmines in genus Jasminum (Oleaceae).  This vine is moderately salt tolerant. Not cold hardy, utilized in the coastal plain, lower south or as interior landscape plant; several cultivar selections cited as more cold-hardy; prune after flowering; provide support; utilized on lattices, arbors, fences.

Wildlife Value: Flowers are attractive to bees.  This plant is seldom damaged by deer.
