Scotch Moss Sagina subulata 'Aurea'

Phonetic Spelling
sa-JEE-nuh sub-yoo-LAH-tuh
Description

Yellow Scotch Moss is a low growing soft herbaceous perennial groundcover that requires little maintenance.  Its evergreen moss-like neon-yellow carpet of foliage is great for filling in between pavers, in rock gardens, or along a path.  Light foot traffic is tolerated.

Unlike true moss that grows in moist, shady conditions, this plant does best in full sun to part shade and requires good drainage.

True moss does not flower.  Yellow Scotch Moss has tiny star-shaped flowers that are solitary.  Rounded green buds open to form the 5-petaled flower.

This is an easy plant to divide, just tear apart a clump into smaller pieces.  The best time for division is early spring or fall.  Self-seeding can occur, however, unwanted growth is easily removed.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems:  May not be the best choice for areas that are subject to hot and humid conditions.  It may become unattractive until temperatures and humidity become more tolerable.  It does not do well under drought conditions.
