Description

Pink Grootendoorst is a hybrid rugosa shrub in the rose family (Rosaceae) that is a sport of 'F. J. Grootendorst' and was discovered by F. J. Grootendoorst of the Netherlands in 1923. It was introduced in Australia by Hazelwood Bros. Pty. Ltd in 1932 as 'Pink Grootendorst'.

This shrub will grow 4-6 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide. It prefers full sun in moist well-drained fertile soil. Prune to control size in late winter and remove any dead, diseased or crossed canes. Avoid overhead watering and crowding to help prevent diseases. Propagate with stem cuttings.

The double pink blooms are 1.5 inches across in clusters with a mild to no fragrance. Bloom time is early summer with occasional repeat blooming later in the season.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant problems:  Disease can include clack spot, rose rust, powdery mildew and downy mildew.  May have issues with aphids, rose leaf hopper, red spider mites, caterpillars, and sawfly.  Deer and rabbits can cause damage. See pests of roses to the left.
