Iceberg is a cultivar floribunda shrub rose in the rose family (Rosaceae) bred by Kordes in Germany in 1958 and released as Schneewittchen®. It is known as Fée des Neiges in French and Iceberg in English. It is part of the New Generation Roses ® Collection. Parentage is R. 'Robin Hood' and R. 'Virgo'.
Iceberg is a small bushy vigorous rose that will grow 3-5 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. Plant in full sun to partial shade in well-drained fertile soil. Mulch to retain moisture and control weeds. Prune in late winter to remove dead and diseased canes and prune to 1/3 its size or more if needed.
Abundant clusters of semi-double mildly fragrant white blooms are produced spring through frost. The flowers are white with a pink tint upon opening and have 20-40 petals. The foliage is glossy medium green and the canes have few prickles.
Received the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1058. It was selected as the "World Favourite Rose" of 1983 by the World Federation of Rose Societies and is listed in their "Rose Hall of Fame".
Several sports of this rose have been discovered including ones with pink and red flowers and a climbing variety.
Use iceberg as a specimen, in groups, in the border, as a foundation plant and in cottage and cutting gardens.
Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Good disease resistance. Watch for black spot in humid areas. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
