Pinus mugo 'Mops'

Phonetic Spelling
PY-nus MEW-go maaps
Description

A dwarf plant, that will maintain its form when trimmed annually. It grows best when planted in full sun with well-drained loam soil. A very adaptable plant that will flourish in extremes of soil (clay tolerant, sandy), pH, and climate.  This plant prefers cool summer climates and is tolerant of urban conditions.

Pruning annually in late winter will help to retain its compact size.  Spring pruning will thicken the plant and also assist in maintaining a dwarf form.

A serious issue affecting this plant is pine needle scale and sawflies.  Of a lesser issue are moths and borers.  It is somewhat susceptible to tip blight, rusts, and rots.
