Description

Orange stonecrop is a herbaceous semi-evergreen perennial in the stonecrop family (Crassulaceae) native to Russia, China, Japan and Korea. it has escaped cultivation in Europe and the United States and appears in disturbed areas as along roads.

This clump-forming plant grows only 3 to 7 inches tall and 12 inches wide, preferring full sun in dry to medium moisture, well-drained neutral pH soils. It is drought-tolerant once established and is resistant to damage from deer and rabbits. Propagate by division or seed.

In late summer, 2 to 3-inch golden-yellow flower clusters form and are followed by reddish seedheads. The bright green foliage has scalloped edges and turns orange in the fall for three seasons of interest. Received the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.

Use orange stonecrop in a rock garden, as a ground cover, mass planted, for edging, on a bank or in a container.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems:  Root rot can occur in poorly drained soils. No significant pest problems.
