Miscanthus transmorrisonensis

Phonetic Spelling
miss-KANTH-us trans-mor-riss-on-EN-sis
Description

In 1979, Paul Meyer and C. Ferris Miller from different arboretums found this plant seed when climbing to 9500 feet on Mt Daxue in Taiwan.  Miscanthus transmorrisonensis is an evergreen clumping grass with narrow green leaves which grows 2-3 foot high. Inflorescences are held high above foliage starting in spring and lasting into winter. Cut flowers make excellent additions to flower arrangments.  Give this grass plenty of space as it becomes quite wide.  It makes an excellent accent plant or planted in mass in a border, near a pool, in a meadow, or along a slope.  The plant is closely related to Miscanthus sinensis but is horticulturally distinct.
