Tie Jian Shan is a large evergreen tree in the pine family with medium green needles and an upright or oval habit. It is found along mountain slopes or in woodlands growing in small groups or solitary. Plant in full sun in sandy or loamy soils with good drainage. This tree suffers in the shade but tolerates heat and dry soils well. When it is young it resembles Abies alba.
