Buddleja 'Lochinch'

Previously known as:

  • Buddleja davidii 'Lochinch'
  • Buddleja fallowiana 'Lochinch'
Phonetic Spelling
bud-LAY-yah
Description

Buddleja "Lochinch' grows in average, well-drained soil in full sun. It can become weedy if not grown in full sun and will have less vigorous flowering. As with other Buddleja's, it does not do well in wet, poorly draining conditions. However, it tolerates clay soil that has been properly amended with compost. This is not as winter hardy as other Buddlejas. It may die back to the roots in zone 6 and should be grown in a protected area and well mulched.

Deadheading of flowers will encourage additional bloom.  This butterfly bush blooms on both old and new wood and pruning branches close to the ground in late winter will produce abundant flowers and a better shape to the plant. It has a compact and mounded form and will typically grow 4-6 feet tall in a single season but can grow much taller if not pruned.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Nematodes are an occasional pest problem.
