What to look for: Large boulders and rocky outcrops on the property need not be a hindrance to gardening. They can be turned into a feature. A natural rock outcropping provided a wonderful opportunity to develop a very garden among the rocks. The rocks were high enough to add a waterfall that flows down to a Koi pool.

Horticulture: A few rocks were moved from other parts of the yard to supplement the existing rocks. Compost and topsoil were added in places where plant roots would need deeper soil to grow well. A net is kept over the fish pool to protect the Koi from hungry herons.
