What to look for: This is a dry stream bed garden that turned a potential problem, excessive runoff and erosion, into an asset to the landscape. The house is situated on the side of a steep hill so that rainwater flows toward the house. With nowhere for the water to go it was eroding the soil & forming a ditch.
Several tons of rock were purchased and placed along the eroded ditch in an attractive pattern. Once the rocks were in place, plants were added to soften the appearance of the stones and add textural interest. The plants not only look good but they help hold the sounding soil in place. The erosion problem was solved and the dry stream bed enhanced and added diversity to the landscape.
