Description

After a plant exploration trip to Argentina, the gloxinia cultivar 'Evita' was introduced by Plants Delight Nursery in 2004.  It is a tropical looking perennial cultivar in the Gesneriaceae (African violet) family with red stems and screaming orange/red flowers. The parent plant is native to high mountain regions of Argentina making it very cold hardy for a gloxinia.

Its leaves are fuzzy and cling close to the ground making the plant no taller than a foot in height. It spreads by above ground stolons, making it an excellent choice as groundcover for shady areas. Keep plants dry in their dormant winter months.  In the spring, it is slower than other plants to emerge.  Expect sprouts to appear in April.

Great for a shady location with other shade plants.  Its spread will accent other plants without becoming overpowering.
