Rosa Simplicity Hedge Rose Group

Description

The Simplicity Hedge Rose group was introduced in 1979 by Jackson Perkins breeder Bill Warriner. They were created to produce rose shrubs that are more disease-resistant and hold up to heat and humidity.

These shrubs are densely branched and reach 3-5 feet in height and 3 feet wide. They need moist well-drained average to loamy soil and full sun for the best blooming. They can be planted densely to form a hedge. Pruning requirements are minimal, removing any old, dead, diseased or crossed canes. They can be pruned to maintain their size. In zone 6 winter protection is required.

The semi-double to double blooms come in various colors and bloom heaviest in the spring to early summer. They continue to bloom in flushes through fall. The light to dark green foliage stays attractive through the growing season.

Use these roses as a hedge, a specimen or in groups. They will also tolerate growing in large containers on your patio.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: While these shrubs are more resistant to insects and diseases than many roses they can still have problems, especially if unhappy. See potential pests listed to the left.
