Common Name(s):
- Phonetic Spelling

- Description
-
Robusta is a hybrid rugosa rose in the Rosaceae family. It was hybridized by Reimer Kordes in 1979
This vigorous shrub will grow 5-7 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide. It prefers fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Fertilize spring and summer. Apply mulch to retain moisture. Prune in the fall to maintain size. Diseased or damaged canes can be removed at any time. Allow good air circulation to help prevent diseases.
The fragrant dark red single flowers are 4-5 inches across, occur in spring and then rebloom in flushes throughout the season. The glossy green foliage occurs on stems with spines.
Use Robusta as a specimen, a hedge, a barrier or in the border. Works well in a cutting, English or cottage garden
Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Susceptible to blackspot. See pests of roses to the left.
