Description

Red Ribbons is a hybrid groundcover rose in the Rosaceae family. It was introduced in 1990 by Kordes Roses, and marketed by Jackson & Perkins as part of the Garden Ease Collection. Sold in plant nurseries as 'Chilterns', 'Fiery Sensation', 'Kortemma' or 'Mainaufeuer' rose.

This rose grows in a dense well-branched form that makes it effective as a groundcover. It will be 2-3 feet tall and spread 4 feet wide or more. It is hardy and disease-resistant. Red ribbons prefers fertile moist well-drained soil in full sun. Fertilize in spring and summer and prune any damaged, diseased or dead canes in early spring. Mulch to help retain moisture.

The 3-inch red double flowers appear in spring and continue through fall. The small glossy leaves are borne on stems with prickles.

Use this plant as a ground cover or cascading over rocks or walls. It can also be the "spiller" in a container.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Fair disease resistance. See pests of roses to the left.
