Rosa 'Nevada'

Common Name(s):

Phonetic Spelling
RO-zuh
Description

The Nevada rose was developed by Pedro Dot in Spain in 1927 and is a well-known white cultivar in the Rosaceae family. Parentage is 'La Giralda' × 'Altaica'. Nevada means snow in Spanish.

It is a vigorous growing shrub growing 6-12 feet tall and wide or more with an arching spreading habit and a few prickles. It can be grown as a shrub or a climber. It will sucker if grown on its own roots. Plant in average, moist, well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade. To help prevent diseases, do not crowd the plant so it has good air circulation. Mulch will help retain moisture. Remove damaged crossed or diseased canes at any time. Prune in winter or early spring to maintain size.

It blooms heavily in May and June and may have some repeat blooming during the summer. Deadheading will help encourage further blooms. The fragrant flowers are large white blooms with golden stamens. Leaves are glossy on stems with prickles.

Use this plant as a specimen, foundation plant, hedge or train to a trellis or other vertical space.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Roses are susceptible to rust, blackspot and mildew. See pests of roses to the left.
