- Description
-
Jeanne Lajoie is considered a miniature climbing rose with support but will also grow as a shrub. It is in the rose family (Rosaceae) and was a 1975 introduction from breeder E. P. Sima. It won the America Rose Society Award of Excellence in 1977.
The vigorous shrub requires moist well-drained slightly acidic garden loam in full sun to light shade. Support will need to be provided if growing on a trellis or other vertical structure. It can also be grown as an open shrub. This rose will become 6-10 feet tall and spread 6 to 10 feet wide. Mulch to retain moisture and avoid overhead watering. Clean up dropped and diseased leaves and prune out diseased or dead canes as needed.
The abundant 2-inch double-pink blooms continue throughout the season. It has a mild tea fragrance and blooms in clusters of up to 10 per cluster on long stems which makes it a good cut flower. The compound leaves are glossy green.
Grow this rose on a trellis, wall or fence. It can also be a specimen open shrub and will provide season-long blooms.
Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Good disease resistance. However, roses are susceptible to many diseases and insects, especially in hot humid climates. . Diseases can be black spot, powdery mildew, rust and rose rosette. Potential insect problems include aphids, beetles, borers, scale, thrips, rose midges, leafhoppers and spider mites. Provide good airflow and avoid overhead watering to decrease disease and insect problems
