'Ispahan' is a David Austin old Damask rose in the rose family (Rosaceae) and was introduced in 1832. The cultivar name 'Ispahan' is after the city Isfahan in Iran where it was discovered growing. It has also been known as 'Rose d'Ispahan' and 'Pompon des Princes'.
This vigorous shrub can grow 4-8 feet high and 3-5 feet wide. It is tolerant of most well-drained soils in full sun but will tolerate light shade. It is also fairly disease-resistant and cold-tolerant to zone 4. Prune after flowering is over. Prune out diseased, damaged or crossed canes anytime. Mulch will help retain moisture.
'Ispahan' produces very full old-fashioned medium pink flowers with dark pink centers in fragrant clusters with no repeat blooming. It has a long bloom period of 6 weeks. The compound leaves are an attractive gray-green. The stems have a few large prickles.
Granted the Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society in 1993
