'Ispahan' is a David Austin old Damask rose in the rose family (Rosaceae) and was introduced in 1832. The cultivar name 'Ispahan' is after the city Isfahan in Iran where it was discovered growing. It has also been known as 'Rose d'Ispahan' and 'Pompon des Princes'.
This vigorous shrub can grow 4-8 feet high and 3-5 feet wide. It is tolerant of most well-drained soils in full sun but will tolerate light shade. It is also fairly disease-resistant and is cold-tolerant to zone 4. The stems have a few large prickles. Prune after flowering is over. Prune out diseases, damaged or crossed canes anytime. Mulch will help retain moisture.
'Ispahan' produces very full old-fashioned pink flowers with dark pink centers in clusters that are deeply fragrant with no repeat blooming. It has a long bloom period of 6 weeks. The compound leaves are an attractive gray-green.
Use this shrub as a specimen, in mixed borders, as a hedge, in a cutting garden or even in a pot.
