The Flower Carpet® Rose Group are low-growing compact shrubs in the Rosaceae family. They have been released by Anthony Tesselaar Flowers. They have won multiple awards in the flower industry including the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. See cultivars below.
These small shrubs will grow 2-4 feet tall and spread 3-4 feet wide. Their bushy spreading habit makes them a good groundcover. They prefer full sun but will tolerate some shade will fewer blooms produced. Provide fertile, moist well-drained soil that has a slightly acid pH. No pruning is needed but remove damaged or diseased canes. Prune in late winter for a shorter bushier plant if desired. Mulch will help maintain moisture. Avoid overhead watering to help prevent diseases of leaves. Winter protection is needed in colder climate areas.
They come in a variety of colors and are single to semi-double. These shrubs bloom non-stop from spring to fall and no deadheading is required. bloom profusely and continuously from spring to fall. The glossy green foliage stays attractive throughout the season.
Use the Flower Carpet® Roses in mass plantings, as a ground cover, in the border front or as a specimen in the English, cottage or pollinator garden. They could also be grown in a container.
Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Good disease resistance but watch for rust. powdery mildew and rose black spot. See pests of roses to the left. Deer and rabbits will browse the plant.
