- Description
-
An ARS All-American Rose Selection, 'Europeana' is a shrub in the Rosaceae (rose) family. It was created in 1963 by de Ruiter Innovations from the Floribunda cultivars 'Ruth Leuwerik' and 'Rosemary Rose'.
The semi-double blooms typically have between 16 and 25 petals. Blooming in large clusters, the long-lasting flowers have a mild tea fragrance and are repeat bloomers, with flushes of new blooms.
Blooming on new wood, pruning should be done early in the year to promote new growth. Regular pruning to remove damaged or dead wood will increase air flow, which in turn will help deter diseases. Pruning will also encourage new growth and increased flower production.
The young, showy foliage starts out dark red and turns a dark green as the leaves mature. The attractive leaves can sometimes be hidden by the abundance of blooming flowers.
This rose has a high resistance to root rot.
Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Can be susceptible to mildew. Leaf scorch, leaf spot, black spot, and powdery mildew are sometimes an issue. Insect problems can include aphids, leafcutter bees, spider mites, Japanese beetles, caterpillars, leaf hoppers. and scale insects. For full information on common pests and diseases, please see the Rosa page.
