Platanus orientalis var. digitata
Common Name(s):
- Phonetic Spelling
- PLAT-an-us or-ee-en-TAY-liss dig-ee-TAY-tah
- Description
-
Excellent large shade, street or park tree. Its wide-spreading crown needs sufficient space to grow properly, a minimum of 25 feet from any building. This long-lived tree has noticeably crooked branches.
Its vigorous root system can cause issues. A root barrier preventing surface roots in shallow soils will benefit the tree.
Has a significantly lower susceptibility to anthracnose than other varieties.
If planted where foot traffic is present, the fruit dropped will require clean up.
