Dwarf Scots Pine Pinus sylvestris 'Watereri'

Other Common Name(s):

Phonetic Spelling
PY-nus sil-VESS-triss wah-ter-AIR-ee
Description

The cultivar 'Watereri' is upright when young, but broadly conical with age.  Its branch tips are directed upward.  It typically grows broader rather than tall.

Its slow growth habit makes this an excellent choice for the creation of bonsai.

The small cones and stiff, twisted blue-gray-colored needles and orange-tinged bark make this plant interesting year-round.

Not a native, but has been naturalized in portions of the northeast and the north-central US.

Insect, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems:  This tree is susceptible to wind damage.  Some plant issues include sphaeropsis tip blight, pine wilt nematode, sawflies, moths and scale.
