Morning Light Miscanthus Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light'
Other Common Name(s):
- Phonetic Spelling
- miss-KANTH-us sih-NEN-sis MOR-ning LYTE
- Description
-
This plant was introduced in 1976 by the U.S.National Arboretum from a Japanese plant specialist, Masato Yokoi. 'Morning Light' is a somewhat smaller, more fine-textured version of the popular M. s. 'Gracillimus'. Narrow, green leaves with three white stripes, produces a shimmering silver effect. This plant is tolerant of heat and adapts to well-drained moist soils. Not prone to lodging either in the sun or light shade environment. The 'Morning Light' rhizomes grow slowly, maintaining a clump shape, however; in mild weather, this plant may re-seed itself becoming invasive. Mulching is the best prevention for reseeding problems.
