- Description
-
Gaillardia 'Tizzy', developed by Skagit Gardens, is a hybrid of two other cultivars in the genus, Gaillardia 'Fanfare' and Gaillardia 'Burgunder'. It has unique trumpet-shaped orange-red rays that are fragrant, vigorous, and attract butterflies.
These plants grow best in full sun and average moist, well-drained soil. They tolerate dry soil, drought, heat, humidity, and poor soil well, but they struggle in heavy clay. Also tolerates rabbits and deer. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage further blooms and extend the flowering season. It makes a great cut flower and can be used in beds and containers alike.
Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Root rot can occur in poorly drained soils. Powdery mildew, aster yellows and fungal leaf spot diseases can occur. Watch for aphids and leafminers.
