Joe Pye Weed Eutrochium maculatum 'Gateway'

Other Common Name(s):

Phonetic Spelling

Description

Joe Pye Weed 'Gateway' is a compact cultivar, shorter and with more robust flowers than other Joe Pye Weed plants. It grows 4-6 feet tall with whorls of leaves on reddish stems. In mid-summer, the tiny dusky-pink flowers appear in large clusters and attract many bees and butterflies. The attractive seed heads can persist into winter if left uncut. Prune to the ground in late winter or early spring.

'Gateway' is easy to grow in average moist soils in full sun to partial shade. Use in the back of the border, as a specimen, along water margins, moist woodland edges, naturalized areas or native and pollinator gardens. It is not drought tolerant and does best with consistently moist soil.
