Star Tickseed is a perennial wildflower that is native to the central and southeastern USA. and can be found in rocky meadow and forests, gravelly stream beds, rocky ledges and railroad right-of-ways. It has bright yellow flowers and can grow up to 4 ft tall. The bright yellow flowers have both ray florets and disc florets and are up to 2 inches wide.
Plant in full sun and dry to medium, well-drained soil. It prefers poor, rocky, and sandy soil. It is drought, heat, and humidity tolerant as well. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong blooming and cut the plant back in summer if foliage becomes sprawling. Use this plant in rock gardens or drought-tolerant gardens as a border plant or in naturalized areas.
