Carphephorus bellidifolius

Common Name(s):

Phonetic Spelling
kar-feh-FOR-us bel-lid-ee-FOH-lee-us
Description

Chaffhead is a native wildflower in the aster family. It is found in dry open wooded areas in the coastal plain and piedmont of the southeastern US. It prefers full sun to part shade in loose sandy soils and is drought tolerant. Chaffhead grows in clumps and reaches  1-2 feet tall and 1-3 feet wide.

The violet, pink to purple flowers appear in summer to fall and butterflies love them. Plant in well-drained soil in a native or pollinator garden.
