Rhizamatous herbaceous perennials forming clumps 2-4' tall by 2' wide. Many cultivars have been selected, with thousands of tiny flowers arranged in plume-like panicles at the tops of the plants. Does well planted in wet sites. Divide plants in spring or fall. Prefers moist and fertile soil.
