Approximate year the garden/landscape was established: 1996

What to look for: The Parking Lot Berm was constructed in 1996 with repurposed soil and salvaged concrete (“urbanite”) to display perennials and sun-loving plants and to screen the parking lot from the rest of the garden. The plants used in this area thrive in the full sun and heat adjacent to the parking lot. The raised soil berms provide excellent drainage.

The planting includes succulents, like Opuntia, Yucca, and Agave, along with flowering herbaceous perennials (Phlox, Baptisia, Penstemon, etc.) and low-growing shrubs. Together, these plants provide year-round architectural interest along with seasonal color.

Horticulture: JLBG is maintained by a team of professionals and volunteers.
