Viburnum Yin® 'NCVX2'
Common Name(s):
- Description
-
Yin viburnum is a cultivar created by Dr Tom Ranney of NCSU by crossing V. davidii x V. propinquum to create a compact shrub growing 2 to 4 feet tall and wide.
Yin viburnum will tolerate full shade but best flowering is in full sun to partial shade. Plant in well-drained average garden soil. Little pruning is required until the plant is a few years old, when the older stems can be sheared in late winter. It is heat, deer and rabbit-resistant.
In spring, clusters of showy white flowers appear. Plant Yin and Yang viburnums together to get the blue drupes in the fall. The shrub is attractive year-round with leathery blue-green leaves on an upright, rounded form.
Use this Viburnum as a foundation plant, as a low hedge, in borders, as a specimen or in groups. It will work well in a pollinator and bird-friendly garden and add interest in the winter.
