- Description
-
Coast Redwood is a needled evergreen tree native to the pacific coast areas. A pyramidal evergreen tree with reddish-brown bark and horizontal branches that curve upwards at the tips. Its finely textured needles are dark green with bluish or grayish undersides. The color holds well in winter. It prefers moist, rich, humusy, well-drained soils in full sun to light shade. This tree doesn't get as tall as the species but can still reach up to 90 feet tall. It grows best in areas of cool, consistent temperatures and moist to wet soils along the coast of the Pacific. It generally doesn't grow well in the southeastern USA.
