The Tamora is an English shrub rose bred by David Austin in 1987. The parents are ‘Chaucer’ x ‘Conrad Ferdinand Meyer’.
The average height of the bushy shrub is 3 feet by 3 feet. It flowers best in full sun with moist, well-drained, fertile soil. Fertilize just before the leaves are fully open in late winter and again after the first bloom cycle. Remove unhealthy stems in late winter. Prune stems by one-third to shape and encourage new growth in late winter/early spring. Deadhead to encourage the continuous blooms. Bare-root roses can be planted in November and April. Potted roses can be planted any time the ground is not frozen or water-logged. Propagate by stem cuttings or grafting.
The apricot peach flowers bloom from spring to fall and have a medium fragrance similar to lilac and mimosa. The 4 to 5-inch flowers open to shallow cups with 40 to 70 petals. Once established, it has good disease resistance to black spot, powdery mildew, and rust.
The compact shrub can be grown in containers or as a short hedge when planted as a mass. They can be placed in a cottage, cutting, English, or pollinator garden as a specimen, along the border, or as a mass planting.
Insect, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: This has good disease resistance. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
