- Description
-
Perdita rose is a hybrid shrub tea rose bred by David C. H. Austin in 1982 in the rose family (Rosaceae). Parentage is The Friar x (unnamed seedling x Iceberg) (floribunda, Kordes 1958).
This vigorous shrub will grow 3.5 to 6 feet tall and 2.5 to 3 feet wide. It prefers full sun in fertile moist well-drained soil. Prune in late winter to early spring to 1/3 its size. Remove dead, diseased or crossed canes at any time. Avoid overhead watering and crowding to help prevent diseases.
The double cream to apricot flowers have a darker center and a spicy fragrance. They bloom in clusters and repeat blooms throughout the season. Glossy green leaves appear on canes with prickles.
Use this shrub as a specimen in the back of the border, in small groups or in a cutting garden.
Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Insects include glasshouse red spider mite, aphids, scale insects and rose leaf-rolling sawfly. See pests of roses to the left. Rabbits and deer may damage the plant.
