Description

Paprika is a hybrid floribunda rose in the Rosaceae family bred by the German rose grower Mathias Tantau in 1956. Parentage is 'Märchenland' x 'Red Favorite'. Several other roses contain the name paprika which can be confusing.

This bushy vigorous shrub grows only 2-3 feet high with a similar spread and prefers full sun in amended well-drained moist garden soil. In late winter to early spring, prune to remove old, dead and diseased canes and prune to 1/3 its size.

Brick-red semi-double flowers with yellow stamens, are 2-3 inches wide, occur in clusters and rebloom nearly continuously throughout the season. The foliage is dark green and glossy and the stems have prickles.

Use this shrub in containers, in the border, in groups, as a low hedge in a pollinator or cottage garden.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Good disease resistance. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
