The New Dawn Rosa 'New Dawn'

Phonetic Spelling
RO-zuh
Description

New Dawn is a light pink climbing rose cultivar created in 1930 by Somerset Rose Nursery, NJ.  It is a vigorous climber with good disease resistance and has earned several awards including being named the most popular climbing rose in the world.

New Dawn is easy to grow and will do best in fertile moist average garden loams in full sun to light shade. It will grow 10-15 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide. Remove any crossed, diseased or dead canes anytime to help increase air circulation and decrease disease susceptibility. Clean up any dropped leaves and flowers in the fall and prune in late winter to early spring as needed. Apply mulch to help maintain moisture.

The soft pink flowers are sweetly fragrant and semi-double to double occurring heavily in June and then repeat blooming through fall. The leaves are glossy green, the stems have prickles and abundant rose hips are produced in the fall for additional interest.

It can be grown on a trellis, fence, pergola or other verticle surfaces. Use as screening, a specimen or a barrier.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems:  Good disease resistance with good cultural practices. See pests of roses to the left.
