Rosa 'Lady of Shalott'

Description

'Lady of Shalott' (PAT. PP22171) is a perennial, shrub rose in the rose family (Roseaceae) that was developed by David C. H. Austin, a British rose breeder, and named for a poem by Alfred Tennyson. This award-winning English rose will quickly grow 3 to 4 feet high and wide with slightly arching stems.

Roses require full sun to partial shade and organically rich, well-drained, acidic to neutral soils. Deadhead the blooms as they fade but stop at summer’s end so the plants can start their hardening off process before winter. Most roses require yearly pruning in late winter.

This rose was bred to have showy, fragrant, long-lasting blooms. There are some 60 loosely arranged, orange petals on each flower. It is noted for being a repeat bloomer, offering a flower display from early spring to frost.

Grow ‘Lady of Shalott’ in a cutting garden or cottage garden. It makes excellent cut flowers. Situate it near a patio or walkway where its scented blooms can be enjoyed. Use it in a mixed border or to create a low hedge.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Fuller rose beetles, Japanese beetles, rose chafer, rose thrips, southern red mites, and two spotted mites are pest problems for roses. Disease problems include botrytis, blights, powdery mildew, leaf spots, and anthracnose.
