Absolutely Fabulous Rose Rosa Julia Child ™ 'WEKvossutono'
- Description
-
Julia Child loved cooking with real butter. One look at this award-winning specimen will bring up fond memories of one of our favorite cooks. This buttery yellow rose was bred in 2004 by Tom Carruth. Prior to her demise, Julia Child chose this beauty to bear her name.
Sporting 35 ruffled petals, the fully double flowers bloom continuously from late spring into fall with a delicious licorice-clove scent. With a background of glossy green foliage, it will make a great addition to any garden.
Best grown in rich, fertile soil with adequate moisture. Flowering will be at its best when a well-balanced fertilizer is applied in late winter or early spring, and again in early summer. Mulching, to retain moisture, in late winter will also add to the plants well-being. Remove mulch in the spring.
Water early in the day on a regular basis. Avoid wet feet.
It makes a great container plant with its compact, rounded habit. In warmer climates, 'Julia Child' will grow taller (up to 5') and can be grown as a small tree.
This easy keeper requires little maintenance. Minimal pruning is required, however, will help to maintain its rounded shape. Once established, pruning will also encourage additional branching. Deadheading will encourage additional blooms.
The All-America Rose Selection, the most prestigious rose award in the US was awarded to this selection in 2006. Also awarded the Best of the Best in 2010 and the Gold Star of the South Pacific in 2011.
