Frida Kahlo Rose is a hybrid floribunda shrub rose in the Rosaceae family bred Bred by Christian Bédard and Tom Carruth of the United States and released by Weeks Wholesale Rose Grower, Inc. in 2018 as 'Frida Kahlo' after the famous Mexican artist. Introduced in the United Kingdom by C & K Jones in before 2017 as 'The University of Chester Rose'. Parentage is (City of San Francisco x Baby Love) x Unknown,
This upright spreading shrub will grow 3-4 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. Plant in partial shade to full sun in amended well-drained moist garden soil. It is tolerant of urban conditions. Prune in the winter.
Flowers are scarlet red striped gold with the colors intensifying with age and a red blush on finishing. They are 3-4 inches wide with 25-40 petals and a mild, fruity fragrance. They bloom in clusters in flushes through the season. Foliage is glossy green on stems with prickles.
This rose can be planted in the garden or a container. Use on the patio, along walkways, in the border, in small groups or as a specimen. Works in a cutting or cottage garden.
