This rugosa shrub rose is very hardy and repeat blooms throughout the growing season. The large pink blooms are followed by large red hips so don't deadhead. Blooms best in full sun with moist loam or sandy loam well-drained soils. Avoid clay soils. It is salt and deer tolerant and once established is also drought tolerant. Showy bronze leaf color appears in the fall. Prune by the renewal method removing one-third of the oldest canes to the soil line as needed in the late winter to keep the shrub open and new canes in production. Watch for the prickles!
Very resistant to blackspot, mildew and rust. Watch for aphids, leafhoppers, spider mites, scale, caterpillars, sawfly larvae, cane borers, Japanese beetles, rose stem girders, rose midges, rose slugs, rose chafers, leaf-cutting bees, black spot, rust, powdery mildew, crown gall, canker, dieback, downy mildew, viruses.
